a report of school visit

as a student of tarbiyah faculty, we must able to do a teaching learning process, but before going to real process of our own class, we firstly have to observe other classes in order to improve the quality of our class. so, this is the report of my observation...
This report is based on the result of school visit that have been conducted in SMPN 2 lampriet.the teaching is for the third graders of junior high school. Before the teaching learning is held, teacher firstly greet students and asked them what they have already understood about last meeting lesson. Teacher dominantly speakBahasa Indonesia added with English to explain the material. The topic that the teacher going to explain at that day is language features of descriptive text. Firstly, teacher asked students what is exactly descriptive text, after that she wrote the definition of it on the whiteboard together with the branches of language features of descriptive, such as using adjective exactly in feeling and emotion. The goal of teaching is to develop student’s comprehension about adjective, feeling and emotion. To support the learning, teacher used visual media, that are some pictures that represent the emotion, it is actually combined with audio-lingual method, but the first teacher only taught descriptive using pictures. The teacher has provided several picture and showed them to all students. Teacher asked students what kind of emotion that the picture shows and the one who can answer it have to write the emotion on the white board.

After that, the teacher began to pronounce and students followed the teacher several times. Again, the teacher showed students a picture and asked students to write and pronounce the word. Then, teacher the students to describe themselves using the adjective that they have just learned. Each student has to write two sentences and submit the exercise.
In the next phase, teacher broke the students into a pair, and explained what they want to do. Here, the teacher would like to play a song. The song is actually related to the adjective that they have discussed in advance, so besides developing vocabularies, teacher also wanted to increase students’ ability in listening. The song is sung by westlife, soledad. The teacher selected it because it is not very complicated and easy to be listened to. Teacher began to distribute the worksheet and will play the song three times. The instructional media used in this phase is, a loud-speaker to help students to listen to a song clearly and easily and a mobile phone along with the worksheet that consist two questions, filling the gap and find the adjective in the lyric.
The teacher only played the song three times and the students have to work collaboratively in pair. After finishing listening to a song, teacher started to discuss the answers together and they are written on whiteboard. Each pair has to change their worksheet to another pair and they will correct it directly.
In conclusion, the teacher itself is the media in teaching learning but there is another media can be used to support his/her teaching to be more effective. Like in this case, teacher applied two kinds of media in teaching adjective along with listening skill, they are, several pictures of emotion and feeling and a loud-speaker and a mobile phone for listening section
